CHHS Colorguard

"Someone has to make the band look good!"

What is Color Guard?

Colorguard evolved over the years into a sport that is a form of dance theater that uses props, along with movement, to express dynamic passages in the music accompanying the show. Modern color guards use flags, sabers, rifles, batons, swing flags, airblades, and a few other pieces of equipment, as well as a mix of ballet, jazz, modern, and contemporary modern dance.

The CHHS Color Guard performs as part of the varsity band during the fall football and competition season.  They provide a primary visual component to the overall band performance.  They do this by combining dance and equipment to help convey and represent the theme of the band’s show.  The members get highly skilled in not only dance techniques but also learn how to handle various pieces of equipment.   Highlights of the fall season include the BOA competitions.

 What is Winter Guard?

During the Winter and Spring sessions there is a guard group formed for winter and spring competitions.   These competitions usually are held in gymnasiums around the area and only involve the guard and not the full band.   There are teams formed for Varsity Winter Guard and JV Winter Guard and they compete in their own divisions using various pieces of equipment and themes.
